Mount Yasur
Mount Yasur is an active volcano on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu. It is 361 m (1,184 ft) high. Captain James Cook was the first European to visit the island in 1774. It is thought that the glow of the volcano was what drew him there.
It is one of the easiest volcanoes to visit in the world. Anyone can walk right up to it and look down into its hot stomach. It normally erupts several times an hour, sending fire, brimstone, and ash into the air.
Mount Bromo
Gunung Bromo is an active volcano in East Java. It is part of the Tengger range. It is not the highest peak of the range at 2,329 meters (7,641 feet), but it is the most well-known. It is one of the most popular places for tourists to visit in Java.
The top of the volcano has been blown off, and the hole inside is always spewing out white smoke that smells like sulfur. The Laut Pasir (Sea of Sand), which is made up of fine volcanic sand, is all around it. When compared to the lush green valleys around the Tengger massif, the entire effect is very strange and unsettling.
Krakatoa
Krakatoa is a volcanic island between Java and Sumatra. Its name is Gunung Krakatau. Mount Krakatoa blew its top on August 26 and 27, 1883. It was one of the most violent volcanic eruptions in known history.
The explosion was the same as 200 megatons of TNT, which is 13,000 times more powerful than the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima. Even in Perth, Western Australia, which is about 1,930 miles (3,110 km) away, people could hear the huge blast.
In 1927, events caused the smaller volcanic island Anak Krakatau (which means “Child of Krakatoa”) to rise out of the water. The island continues to grow at an average rate of 7 meters per year. The last time Anak erupted was in April 2008, and it is still going on today.
Arenal Volcano
The most active volcano in Costa Rica is Volcán Arenal, which is 90 kilometers (56 miles) northwest of San José. The Arenal volcano is 1,657 meters above sea level and looks out over Lake Arenal. Geologists say that it is a young volcano because it is thought to be less than 3,000 years old.
In 1968, Arenal erupted, and the small town of Tabacón was wiped out. Three more holes were made on the west side by the eruption, but only one of them is still there today.
Osorno Volcano
Volcán Osorno is a cone-shaped stratovolcano that is 2,652 m (8,701 feet) high and is in the Los Lagos Region of Chile. It is on the southeast side of Lake Llanquihue and stands tall over Lake Todos los Santos. Osorno is a symbol of the local scenery and is known all over the world. It looks a lot like Mount Fuji.
Osorno is one of the most active volcanoes in the southern Chilean Andes. Between 1575 and 1869, there were 11 historical eruptions at Osorno. During these events, lava flows went to both Llanquihue Lake and Todos los Santos Lake.
